Youth National Team

The Guam U13 Boys National Soccer Team just returned from a week long tournament in Beijing, China. (click here for more)

This year’s U-13 Guam Boys National Team will head for Beijing, China bright early Thursday, April 12th.  The national team will be participating in a series of games from April 13th through April 18th.  The other teams participating in this event are: Korea Republic, Korea DPR, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei and our host country China.

The national team was selected through an open tryout that took place in January 2007.  Head Coach Sang Hoon Kim selected 22 players to meet the AFC Festival U-13 of Football regulation.  The players have been training since then with a couple of scrimmages to test their skills and wills.

The reason for this many players on a roster is to provide the U13 players with the opportunity to play, enjoy and gain experience at international level.  This also provides a platform to teach the skills to raise their level and encourage them to continue the sport.

One feature that is emphasized during the tournament is positive education through the “Green Card” that is issued by the referee.  This is a tool to encourage, appreciate and recognize good and positive actions.  By reinforcing good sportsmanship or positive actions, it will set examples to others to follow suit while it promotes positive education.  We hope our Guam team will return with one or two of these.

In addition to the Green Card, it is certain that they will represent Guam well with their strong performances and gain great experiences.
